December Pause 2025

ree

December has this way of rushing at us, doesn't it? The chaos of the

season, the to-do lists, the preparations… and yet, nature whispers a different message. The days are shorter, the sun softer and lower in the sky, animals settling into hibernation. These subtle cues invite us to slow down too, to pause, rest, and reflect before the year ends.

The other day, I took this to heart. I put a timer on my phone for 15 minutes, left it in another room, made a cup of ceremonial cacao, and just sat on the sofa. Outside, beautiful snow was falling, and in those 15 minutes, I felt myself reset. It reminded me that December isn't about doing more, rushing, or checking off every item on a list. It's about going inward, connecting with gratitude for what you're blessed with, what you want to carry forward into the New Year—and what you're ready to release.

If you'd like to try this too, here are some prompts to guide your pause:

  • What am I grateful for this year?

  • What lessons or gifts do I take with me into next year?

  • What no longer serves me that I am ready to release?

  • How can I create space for joy, stillness, and connection in these last weeks of the year?

Ceremonial Cacao Recipe for Your Pause

A warm, grounding ritual drink to support reflection and rest

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • 2 tbsp raw cacao powder- Trader Joe’s

  • 1 cup plant milk (oat, almond, and coconut are my favorites)

  • 1 tsp maple syrup or honey

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of cinnamon

  • Pinch of cayenne (optional, for warmth)

  • Tiny pinch of sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Gently warm the milk in a small pot over low heat (don't boil)

  2. Add cacao to the warm milk and whisk until fully melted and smooth

  3. Add maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, cayenne, and salt

  4. Whisk vigorously or use a frother to create a creamy texture

  5. Pour into your favorite mug

The Ritual:

Hold the warm mug in both hands. Take three deep breaths. Set an intention for your pause—perhaps gratitude, release, or simply presence. Sip slowly, letting each taste anchor you into this moment.

Cacao is known as the "food of the gods" and has been used in ceremony for centuries. It opens the heart, supports introspection, and brings a gentle, grounded energy—perfect for winter reflection.
